moments i want to remember

this. i want to remember this. when he is three and thirteen and thirty. this quiet and sweet diurnal moment. the simple magic of our first morning feeding. air moving softly. his contented sucks and sighs. the way he hides behind his arm rolls while he nuzzles and hugs me. his pinched ear dimple that has remained from his time all balled up in my belly. his soft hair that glints in the morning light.

this. i want to remember this. reading "le pyjama de sophie" before naptime. a book purchased for her from a tiny shop in lyon (thanks, bonnie adele!). brushing her flaxen wisps from her face while she flips pages and tells the story to me. childhood is so incredible. one day, she's still my baby in diapers and the next, she's a big girl in fancy undies. one moment, she is listening to a story and then, she's recalling the events and words from each page, putting her own twist on the plot. one month, she wants mama to help with everything and the next, she wants to do everything "by myself". this is such a tough and remarkable and frustrating and rewarding time. and what a crazy learning curve for a child...and parents.

i just keep praying that God equips me as i work on sharpening these little arrows that have been entrusted to me.

"behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward. like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one's youth. blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them!"
psalm 127:3-5
