bébé numéro deux | 33 weeks
progress & countdown: 33 weeks down & 49 days to go.
baby size: a pineapple.
food & drink: much of the same, much to my man's dismay. boring boring boring, over here. nothing wild or crave-y to report. we do have plenty of holidays and celebrations and such during the month of may so i am sure we will get our fill of interesting and festive food. AND there will need to be some pregnancy pasta coming soon... okay, i guess i am wanting lots of mexican food these days. but that really has more to do with summertime than summer.
bump stuff: doing just what you would expect - growing like crazy! the final two months of pregnancy are always wild. baby is packing on pounds. 1/4 to 1/2 pounds a week is kind of the norm. and i can feel that baby isn't messing around. the ball of baby is getting larger and more delightfully round. and the movements are stronger. all kinds of feats and acrobatics and aggressive stretches. testing the tensile strength of mama like mad.
highs: getting to feel an active baby ALL DAY LONG. i am trying to film it and memorize the feeling because i really do miss it postpartum. there is such a bizarre emptiness and peace after baby is no longer wiggling around. i remember after elinor was born, i would irrationally worry that my body felt too quiet...at rest. i guess after months and months of activity in there, a lady gets used to it.
lows: nothing much. other than your run-of-the-mill third trimester pleasantries. a heavy midsection and strange sleeping positions and hip stretching, etc.
new developments: baby weighs a little over 4 pounds and has passed the 17 inch mark. he is rapidly losing that wrinkled, alien look (phew...good news there). baby's skeleton is hardening but the bones aren't yet fused together which allows them to move and overlap during birth. these bones won't entirely fuse until early in adulthood so they can grow as little one's brain and other tissues expand during infancy and childhood.
meaningful moments & hormones & feelings: getting to listen to baby's heartbeat again and watch him kick the midwife. awesome stuff. and hearing elinor's excitement about "going to the miffwife and hearing baby brudder" she mimics the whoosh-whoosh sound that the heartbeat monitor makes and tells us everything that she is going to do and teach her brother when he arrives. this is the stuff.
superficial stuff: the veins are out of control. especially on my belly, those guys are just taking over the joint and they are so strange. also, we are shifting into dress-ville these days. the temperatures are rising and the belly is growing so get ready for pretty much all dresses, all the time.
looking forward to: a busy month. family gatherings. birthdays. graduations. celebrations. all the stuff that makes for a great month. AND that makes the last month before baby month go by quickly. yay for may!
