my folks at the farm

IMG_0052 IMG_0049 IMG_0051 IMG_0050 IMG_0048 IMG_0047 on this week's trip to the farm, my parents joined in the fun. and since my very favorite food truck was taking a little vaycay, we figured it was a good week to eat at joe's. smart move.

we grabbed a table and ordered up the goods. burgers and salads and bbq and fried yumminess. quite tasty. ben got the famous fontina burger and it was out of control. local ground chuck topped with roasted red pepper, grilled mushrooms, field greens, farm-made pecan pesto, and imported fontina cheese. and he splurged to get the onion rings which were some of the best i have ever tasted. flavorful and crunchy and not oily at all. since hubby offered to share a bite of his burger, i opted for the veggie burger. yum. veggie burgers can very easily be blah. and there is nothing worse than dropping moolah on a night out and being left with a "i probably could have done better at home" taste in your mouth. but no worries here. this burger was wowza. hand-made with black beans, brown rice, oats, and ten fresh farm vegetables. it was so flavorful and fresh...and crispy! and topped with some creamy dreamy vegan thousand island dressing which i now want on everything. i added some avocado to the mix because, avocado love. it was great. and the pickles! i even ate those pickles...and i don't even like those things. pickles are ickles in my book. oh, but not these. so herbaceous and tart and amazing.

and of course, we got a basket of sweet potato fries for the table because the pineapple-serrano dipping sauce alone makes it worth it. elinor ate it by the forkful. you gotta love a laid-back burger bbq joint that takes things up a notch and makes you actually feel good after eating it. yay for farm fresh.

after dinner, we strolled a bit so elinor could get a good ride on grandpa's shoulders and see all the sights. we grabbed our CSA and chatted it up with the farmers. it was an easy-peasy evening. nothing too fussy. and not too terribly hot. thanks clouds! we wandered the grounds to point things out to E {no baaaa's this time, but one crazy rooster} and enjoy the sun beginning its leisurely summer descent. sigh.

thanks for making the trek, mom and dad. you are welcome anytime.
